St. Augustine School's warm and nurturing environment has been designed to help your little one flourish each and every day. Your child will learn in a fun, safe and caring space where they have the freedom to discover their world as they build a foundation for the person they will become.
The first day of preschool is not just a milestone for your child but also for you as a parent.
As the big day approaches, it's normal to experience a mix of emotions, from excitement to anxiety.We understand!!
Sister Mary Elizabeth and Mrs. Fessman, together with their faculty have over 40 years experience working with children in PReK.
Preparing yourself for your young child's first day of school is just as important as preparing them.
Remember, this is an exciting milestone for both of you, and with a little preparation, you'll be well-equipped to embrace this new adventure together.

A Typical Day at SAS PReK
The children begin each day with a free play period to encourage development of their socialization skills. Each classroom is set up with different stations for play. This is followed by Circle Time where they learn about the weather, the day of the week, colors, shapes, letters of the alphabet, sing songs and begin their day.
Snack time occurs in the mid morning and Lunch midday, both are held in their classroom. The children bring their own Snack & Lunch from home.
Weather permitting there are daily trips to our new outdoor playground. The three year olds will have a nap period in the afternoon.
Additional enrichment is provided by Story Time in the Library, and Music Class for both the 3's and the 4's. Physical Education is provided for the four year olds in the gymnasium.
Arts and Crafts projects, in class story time, play centers and rest time round out the children's day.
There is a final circle/quiet time in preparation for dismissal.

AN OVERVIEW OF OUR EARLY CHILDHOOD LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
In our Pre-K classrooms we develop school preparation and readiness by focusing on academic skills
as well as interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Teachers support children as they investigate the world around them.
Children learn how to ask and answer questions, work with others, navigate social situations and
understand and communicate their own thoughts and feelings.
Our teachers expertly create supportive classrooms for all children to safely learn and test new social, academic
and physical skills throughout a typical routine that includes morning and afternoon snack time,
lunch, nap time, exploration time, small and large group experiences and outdoor play.
The children engage in learning opportunities that promote kindergarten readiness, cooperation,
communication, and active learning through a language-rich environment that promotes
reading, writing, listening and speaking.
The curriculum encourages motivation to learn through persistence, flexibility, inventiveness,
tolerance to frustration, and problem-solving.
Small and large group learning opportunities develop social skills,
self-regulation, self-esteem, and fosters kindness while encouraging fine and gross motor development.
Our teachers will be communicating with you regularly, through emails, newsletters, phone calls
to keep you up to date on your child's progress and all the many exciting activities in the classroom.
St. Augustine School continually updates and implements safety procedures throughout the building and grounds.
For example- all the doors to the building are locked, visitors must be buzzed in through the main office.
Parents, visitors etc are not allowed into the classrooms. We have an onsite full time RN in the Health Office.
As children prepare for Kindergarten, the Pre-k classrooms feature lots of fun opportunities
for learning and innovation to occur every day!
