April has been designated as the Month of the Military Child.
St. Augustine School is honored to have three Military families enrolled in our school, all three families are stationed at West Point.
We will be having an assembly on Tuesday April 30th, to honor our Military Families, and will have some of our students speak about their experiences as a child with parents in the Armed Forces.
On Tuesday, SAS will supply PURPLE WRISTBANDS for each child to wear that day. PURPLE is chosen as the color of honor because it combines the colors of ALL the branches of the military----
• NAVY, AIR FORCE, COAST GUARD ---all use Shades of BLUE
• ARMY---shades of GREEN
• MARINES--shades of RED
TOGETHER equals PURPLE!!!!
This is not a grub day, students will be in regular uniform.
The school will supply a purple wristband for our students to wear.
Thank you for your support!
This year’s Contest is entitled, Walking in Someone Else’s Shoes. There were 120 submissions from 35 schools all across Westchester county.
Students were asked to learn about the different programs offered by Lifting Up Westchester and to write a narrative about someone who accessed and benefited from one of those programs.
Many of us have preconceived ideas about what a homeless individual looks like, who might need food from a “soup kitchen,” why some children need extra tutoring/mentoring, or why some individuals need help in securing apartments.
The student’s story can be inspired by real events or come completely from their imagination. The story should be between 750 to 1,000 words and describe someone who needed help from one of Lifting Up Westchester programs: Emergency Housing, Housing Services, Food, Health and Life Skills Support and Next Generation Youth Programs.
Congratulations to Stephanie for winning 2nd Place for her Essay--great job!!
Many heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Talarico, ELA teacher in the Jr High, for all the support and mentoring you provide to our students helping them to find their voices through expressive writing and language.

From Senator Harckam's office---
Dear Students,
Each entry from my District displayed tremendous originality and vision as well as obvious concern for the ecological future of our communities and our state. I am proud of your work and that of your classmates, and encourage you to continue to study and learn more about the serious challenges that face our environment.
And I would like to offer my wholehearted congratulations to all of the participants in this year’s Celebration. I also want to thank your family and give special thanks to your teachers, whose dedication and involvement in this event provided the encouragement for you to be creative and participate in the Earth Day Poster Celebration.
Sincerely,
Pete Harckham
